Gaslight is a 1940 British psychological thriller film directed by Thorold Dickinson which stars Anton Walbrook and Diana Wynyard, and features Frank Pettingell.

Set in Pimlico, London, Alice Barlow (Marie Wright) is murdered by an unknown man, who then ransacks her house, looking for her valuable rubies. The house remains empty for many years, until newlyweds Paul and Bella Mallen move in. Bella (Diana Wynyard) soon finds herself misplacing small objects; and, before long, Paul (Anton Walbrook) has her believing she is losing her sanity. B. G. Rough (Frank Pettingell), a former detective involved in the original murder investigation, immediately suspects him of Alice Barlow's murder.
Paul lights the gas lamps to search the closed-off upper floors, which causes the rest of the lamps in the house to dim slightly. When Bella comments on the lights' dimming, he tells her that she is imagining things. Bella is persuaded that she is hearing noises, unaware that Paul enters the upper floors from the house next door. The sinister interpretation of the change in light levels is part of a larger pattern of deception to which Bella is subjected. It is revealed that Paul is a bigamist. He is the wanted Louis Bauer, who has returned to the house to search for the rubies he was unable to find after the murder.

For Miranda Wells (Gene Tierney), moving to New York to live in Dragonwyck Manor with her rich cousin, Nicholas (Vincent Price), seems like a dream. However, the situation gradually becomes nightmarish. She observes Nicholas' troubled relationship with his tenant farmers, as well as with his daughter (Connie Marshall), to whom Miranda serves as governess. Her relationship with Nicholas intensifies after his wife dies, but his mental imbalance threatens any hope of happiness.

No sooner are they reunited when Karl, actually an SS agent, steals father and daughter back to Germany. It is up to Randall to save them.

Loretta Young Melvyn Douglas
He Stayed for Breakfast is a 1940 romantic comedy film starring Loretta Young and Melvyn Douglas and directed by Alexander Hall. A Communist working in Paris attempts to assassinate a banker, then hides out in the apartment of the banker's estranged wife.

A 17th-century English farmer (Richard Greene) falls in love with a girl (Barbara Hale) from a clan of high-born outlaws.

Based on Louisa Alcott's book of the same name, the story revolves around Polly Milton a country girl who visits a wealthy friend in the city.

British officer Roy visits Waterloo Bridge on the eve of WWII and recalls the time when he met a young ballerina during WWI. After he leaves her for the front, she meets a cruel fate.

The story is about Ulysses' efforts to return to his home after the end of the Trojan war, and the adventures that befell him.

The movie begins with Eurycleia saying to some women in Ulysses' home that Penelope is in charge of the household. Eurycleia tells the women not to consort with the suitors. Penelope has promised under pressure to marry one of her many suitors, who squander the wealth and land of Ulysses. She holds them off by telling them she first wants to finish her tapestry, but she unweaves it every night to stall. Telemachus, the son of Ulysses and Penelope, is sick of the suitors' behavior and decides to search for his father. Ulysses has stranded in the land of Alcinous and is found by Nausicaa.
The tremendous success of this film led to the making of Hercules (1957), which was credited with igniting the Italian peplum craze of the 1960s.

After a dashing hero rescues a young lady from the hands of pirates, his ship falls apart, leaving them on a deserted island. Soon they find unfriendly residents in the form of prehistoric monsters.

Bill O'Brien is a New York con man in search of a suitable gullible person to make some money on. In a fancy nightclub he finds Charles Engle, a man ridden by guilt and on the brink of committing suicide after embezzling a large sum of money that he has spent on his high-maintenance wife.

Charles has the appearance of a common hillbilly from out of town visiting the city and Bill decides to scam him for his money. Bill is unaware that the desperate Charles only has until 6 am to pay back the money he has embezzled before the crime is discovered.

One of the showgirls at the club, Nina Barona, is persuaded by Bill to help trick Charles into entering a poker game to win back the money. The game is arranged by a gangster named Dutch Enright.

Princess Salome (Rita Hayworth) is the step daughter of King Herod (Charles Laughton) of Galilee. Cast out after her affair with Caesar's nephew, Salome finds herself back in the kingdom of her step father when she falls in love with Claudius (Stewart Granger), the commander of her step father's army. Meanwhile, Salome's evil mother, Queen Herodias, is continually being condemned by John the Baptist, and plotting to use Salome as a tool to get the prophet executed.

The film dramatises events leading up to the 1857 trial of an otherwise-respectable young woman, Madeleine Smith (Ann Todd) for the murder of her draper's-assistant lover, Emile L'Angelier (Ivan Desny).
The trial produced the uniquely Scottish verdict of "not proven", which left Madeleine a free woman.

For one thing, its heroine is a novitiate nun and Ray Milland is an almost too happily married albeit dashing American aviator, forced down in occupied France.

Nellie and Eli find time to spend a few peaceful hours with the family. It is a small family circle these days and the Pledge's are left with Lily and Walter, affectionately known - by Eli at least - as the Christmas Fairy and King Rat. But is it a good idea to hold a séance to try to get in touch with old Joshua Pledge who has been dead these two years? Is Lily really a medium? Can the ghosts of picklers long departed really roam the factory? Is dad trying to get in touch with Nellie from that great pickle factory in the sky?

Nellie Pickersgill moves to London to take the reins of her Ailing fathers Chelsea pub.
