Storyline:
A group of draftees are called up into the infantry during World War II. At first, they appear to be a hopeless bunch, but their Sergeant and Lieutenant have faith in them and mould them into a good team. When they go into action in North Africa, they realize what it's all about.

"This is a film about a seemingly run of the mill sort of group. After the Brits were involved in WWII and saw how bad the going would be, the government was forced to draft men who would traditionally have been exempt. Men who were a bit old or involved with careers that might be deemed 'useful' to the effort were suddenly being called to duty, as times were dire. The beginning of the film shows these men being selected for service.

Unfortunately, this is a rather motley group and they tended to complain quite a bit as well (mostly by Stanley Holloway's character). How they could become a productive unit seemed pretty doubtful and I doubt if such an unimpressive group of men would have been used as actors had this propaganda film been made a few years earlier--when things looked really bad for the British. However, now that the war was appearing win-able, I can understand the choices of actors.

There is nothing particularly magical about any of the film--their selection, their training or their combat experience in North Africa. However, all of it was very well handled and excelled because they tried to make it believable--normal, everyday men rising to the occasion. In many ways, it reminded me of a landlocked version of "In Which We Serve"--with fine acting and writing instead of jingoism and super-human exploits. Very well done.

There are a few interesting actors in the film. Peter Ustinov is in his first film and he plays a French-speaking man. While his French isn't 100% fluid, it was decent and a bit of a surprise. Apparently, he was in real life David Niven's assistant in the British Army and somehow ended up in the film.

Hyacinth decides to have a second attempt at finding a weekend home in the country and Elizabeth is called in to help her on her property search. Her final choice is `interesting' to say the least and worries Richard enormously.

Alice adopts a puppy and Ralph inadvertently feeds dog food to his boss.

Stuttering shopkeeper Arkwright, assisted by his much put upon nephew Granville runs the corner shop in a suburb of Doncaster, boasting that it is open all hours. When not pursuing Gladys Emanuel, the district nurse who lives opposite the shop, Arkwright is ever on the look-out to save money, such as buying a load of fire-damaged tinned food. Unfortunately the damage means that all the labels have come off so nobody knows exactly what they are meant to be buying.

A female lawyer hears a knock on her door one night and discovers that it is an old boyfriend, whose current girlfriend has thrown him out, and he needs a place to stay the night.

She agrees to let him sleep on the sofa but he must leave the next morning. When he returns home he finds that his girlfriend has been murdered. His former lover agrees to defend him without telling the court that he spent the night with her. Complications ensue.

When a glamorous representative of a `His and Hers' perfume range sets up shop in the store, Mrs Slocombe and Mr Grainger wage war on their new fast-talking adversary.

Selwyn's boss tasks him to find the city drains underground. They give him maps and send him out. He travels all around trying to match the map to the scenery and ends up digging out the toilets in the club.

The Electricity Board cuts off the power to Bill and Barbie's for non-payment. They know they paid it; they just can't prove it. Joan lets them move in and offers to go down to the office with Bill to sort it out. Unfortunately, the man is Black and Eddie can't hold his tongue. Worse, they find out that Bill gave Barbie the cheque to mail, she gave it to Joan, and Joan gave it to Eddie. It's still in his pocket.

Filthy gets Richie a job reading celeb gossip on TV-AM and explicitly tells him to get there on time: 4.30 in the morning. Naturally, Eddie convinces Richie to go on a booze binge.

After just a week in Malta, Leckie, Ken, Lilley and Jakey are dismayed to find themselves re-posted back to Britain, and into the welcoming bosom of RAF Hospital Druidswater.

Undertow 1949 full movie. Scott Brady stars in this film noir crimedrama as an ex gangster from Chicago who has gone straight but ends up framed for the hit on a powerful mob boss. this crime film has a great chase scene involving a LONG corridor which should not be missed. the film hits all the standard noir plot points and is a quality picture.

Travers continues to evade Clarence's proposals and money continues to be tight. The couple find work at a big house in the village. Guest starring Gwen Nelson and Damaris Hayman.

The shop floor becomes the dance floor. The ladies' and gentlemen's staff combine to enter a ballroom dancing competition at young Mr Grace's suggestion.

Mr. Rumbold has been taken ill and has been rushed to to hospital. Since Mrs. Slocombe has asked to be considered for a career advancement, she is placed in charge.

Mrs Slocomb does not want to sell a new batch of underwear. Mr Grainger is disgruntled with Mrs Slocomb for using half the floor space.

The cold has set in and fuel rations are severely limited amidst a fuel crisis, so Marsh is quick to alleviate C Flight of their portion of coke for Alice's use each night. Meanwhile, Ken is facing troubles of the heart.
